Brunch Combo
A long time back when my boxes first hit the street people were having a tough time finding them, including me. Back then I thought of things you hear about but never actually see. I think I have found the ultimate mythical creature: ![]() Yes, my friends that is a fresh Sunriser sitting beside a fresh Krystal. "How can this happen?" you ask. Well most folks don't know that you can order a Krystal any time you want. However if it is during normal breakfast hours it may take a bit for them to set up a grill and get everything out. I have never had the urge bad enough to actually request that. However, always in the bad of my mind one one tiny little fact. At roughly 10:30am Krystals stops serving breakfast and goes to lunch. There is about a 10 minute time period when they are serving both. This magical 10 minute "changover time" is what I will call "Krystal Brunch" time. You can order off the breakfast or lunch menu and not get funny looks. Expect a bit of a wait and a fair amound of commotion behind the counter and they try and get the breakfast orders out and get the lunch orders started. Also, be certain you tell them you want a #1 breakfast or a #1 lunch combo as it may get confused and you might go home unhappy. Since the greatest Krystal manager ever, Bernida is now managing the Sunday morning shift, I was fearless in ordering this morning, and as usual, Bernida was awesome. She runs a great crew, easily sliding from the register to the grill to chatting with her regular morning lunch crowd. Bernida rocks. OK, so normally people order lunch or breakfast. What on Earth was I thinking when I ordered this: ![]() However, one of the things on my list was "Eggs." I once saw somewhere a hamburger place with a huge list of toppings and I saw they had "fried egg" in the list. Strange, sure, but not completely unreasonable. So I got to thinking about frying an egg an putting it on a Krystal. Then it occurred to me. Krystal already makes great eggs and shaped to exactly the size I needed. Why not let Krystal do the work for me? The problem was getting to Krystal during that magical few minutes. Yes I could have gone any time during breakfast hours, but again, I try not to be too much of a pain to my Krystal friends. Lord knows I cause enough trouble as it is with my BCCBA (aka the Holy Crap! Burger) or my Super Pups. So as I was saying, I'd been contemplating a Krystal topped with a Sunriser, or a SUnriser topped with a Krystal for a long time. This morning I happened to be out and about and couldn't resist the power of the Krystal. I drove down the street, placed my order, and rushed back home to see what I could do. Assembling the creation actually created two tough decisions. Which one goes on top? And do I keep one bun half in between, like a double Krystal? As you can see, I couldn't decide on the last one: ![]() Well, lets just say it turns your tastebuds for a loop. You can taste the sausage and egg so your tounge is thinking "Ahh, Sunriser!" But then the pickle and mustard and oniony Krystal comes through and your tounge does a double take. Sadly, when I ate the second one, I believe my tounge got so confused it might need therapy. Or a corn pup. Did you know that Corn Pups work just as well as therapy? And they never ask how you feel about your parents! Corn Pups rule! (And Corn pups will return here later this week.) So in conclusion, the Brunch Combo was worth the wait. in the future I might ditch the pickle, but the onions must certainly stay! However, maybe it's better to keep the peace by keeping your Krystals and Sunrisers seperate. People will stare at you less, for sure! Then again maybe they were staring out of jealousy? ![]() |
