Good grief, I'm everywhere!
Toby made a comment in his recent email about how I had perhaps taken on some sort of mythical status where people have heard of me but don't believe I exist. I laughed when I heard that. But now I am starting to reconsider. Events of this past week have left me wondering if I am, in fact, absolutely everywhere. If you ever thought I was kidding with all of my Krystal Koincidences, get out a pen: Tuesday of this week I had to go meet with my Edward Jones rep, Skip, to do a little paperwork. The list of coincidences surround Skip and I is amazing. I first got with Edward Jones (or 'EJ' as it's called) when a my friend Jarrett worked for them. You have heard me refer to Jarrett and his parents here before. I moved an old account over to him with EJ. Eventually Jarrett left EJ and turned my account over to another local rep. In the transfer of the paperwork, Jarrett discovered Skip knew me. I played baseball with Skip way back when we were around 9 years old in Conyers. Now if that's not strange enough, Skip has an assistant named Colleen. Colleen was the one who I called last week to set up my Tuesday appointment. When I got off the phone, Sharon who sits in the cube next to mine rolls around and asks if I had just called EJ. She figured that out because Colleen is Sharon's mother. Any phone call involving a Colleen and a Skip simply had to be Edward Jones. In one last twist on the whole Skip thing, I found out that Skip coached youth baseball this past season and one of his players was the son of the President of the school I work for. Simply too weird, eh? But how does this relate to Krystal? Very easily, Skip had caught my article in the paper a month or so ago and despite the fact we hadn't talked in years (decades?) he recognized me and got quite the chuckle out of it. Fast forward to Friday. Exterminators are coming to do some spraying. I need to take a key to LaFaye to ensure they can get into my place since I won't be home when they come by. When I walked in, I remarked that it's been a while since we'd seen each other. LaFaye then replied she'd seen me on a big banner at Krystal not too long ago. She got quite the laugh out of that. If you go back to my induction ceremony you'll see pictures of the 3'x6' banner they had hanging. I let the store keep it up for about 2 or 3 weeks before I brought it home. This morning, I need a haircut so bad it's not even funny. When my hair is hanging in my eyes it's long overdue to be cut. So I hop in the truck early this morning on the way to my barber who is out in Lizella, a little west on Macon. On the way I decide to get some breakfast. I turned into one place and after sitting in their drive through line for about 10 minutes I left. Let's just say: I may be able to have it my way, but apparently not any time soon. I pull out of there and go 4 doors down to the Krystal on Bloomfield. You can't go wrong with a Sunriser Combo. As I am 3 cars from the window I saw some big plastic cups in the drive thru window. Oddly enough I had one of my cups in the truck. So I am holding mine up and comparing it with the ones in the window and it looks the same. As I pull up to the window it is obvious the stack is all my cups. I ask the girl in the window what it'll take to get about 6 or 8 of my cups. She laugh at the fact I kept calling them My cups. She said if I could come back about 6pm they'd probably just give me a whole sleeve of them. Excited I drove off to my barber, enjoying my Sunrisers. As I pull up to my barber, Bill comes walking out (it was a slow morning) and says "Well there's the Krystal Man! We've been waiting for you!" After a few minutes of laughing he showed me he had my newspaper article hung up on the cork board in his shop. He told me he had been sitting at the shop reading the paper one morning and saw the article. When he saw the picture he instantly recognized me. I've been going to Bill to cut my hair since about 1992. He cut the article out and hung it up waiting for my next visit. I asked if he'd seen the cup yet. I gave him the cup I had with me and promised to bring him a box next time. He said he'd put them both up so everyone could see them. As a side note, his neice Michelle cut my hair today and did a great job. So if you're in Lizella and need a hair cut ask where Bill's place is. Lizella's so small everyone knows where it is. Once I got home I hopped on the computer and went on over to Krystal-lovers blog. I hadn't been by in a while and sure enough it had been updated. Once again they were picking on Kenny and his desk. Way back in the beginning of Krystal-Lovers they were picking on Kenny for his messy desk. I did my best to defend Kenny as my desk usually looks much the same. While I was reviewing the new picture something was clear to me immediately. Kenny's desk looks neat, but you'll notice a growing pile of stuff on the floor. Again since Kenny and I both appear to use the "Chronological Vertical Filing System" (older stuff on the bottom, newer stuff on top) I knew of the strategy of placing stuff on the floor. You see if you have a stack that is 8" tall sitting on your desk, you can move the stack, intact, to the floor and it doesn't look nearly as tall. That's using perspective to your advantage. However, while I was looking over Kenny's desk I noticed a few other things. You can open the link above and follow along, starting at the top: Of course you have the obligatory Krystal Lover stickers as seen here on Krystal Adventure. You can also see what appear to be proofs for the upcoming Krystal Square Off hamburger eating contest. On top of his monitor is a KLHOF box, but it appears to be a mock up of the box for the Krystal Burgermobile Bandit, inductee #20. If you go to Krystal.com and go to the KLHOF archived inductees you can see the Bandit. Kenny explained the story to me at my induction but I'll let him give the real story later. I doubt they'll ever put out a box for the Bandit so Kenny's copy is probably very valuable! But perhaps the most important thing as far as I am concerned in Kenny's office is bottom center. Its my cup! Sitting on Kenny's desk!! Woohoo!!! So as you can see, I just might be everywhere! Oh and I did get back to the Krystal on Bloomfield and I did get some cups, but sadly it wasn't the bargain suggested earlier in the day. No whole sleeve, only 8 cups. And I had to buy them. I guess that's what I get for going into Johnny Solomon's territory (Johnny is inductee #15 and he eats at the Bloomfield Krystal every day). So if you want a Jason cup, hit the Krystal on Bloomfield, they have tons! Lastly, I know I said I would revisit the Monte Krystal recipe from earlier. Well I retried it again tonight. I'll give a more in depth review including a recipe tomorrow. I promise! |
