Monte Cristo, Redo

With better preparation and my George Foreman grill, I decided to tackle my Monte Krystal recipe one more try and got better results.
You'll need: Cheese Krystals (sans pickles), 2 large eggs, 1/2 cup of milk, raspberry jelly and/or powdered sugar.
Flatten the Krystals slightly. This is mainly so they hold together in the dunking and grilling. The George Foreman grill will squish em nicely once they start cooking. Wisk the milk and 2 eggs together in a bowl while the grill heats up.
Dunk the Krystals in the egg mixture, flipping them to coat all sides and them put them on the grill. Close the lid and let em sit for 3 to 4 minutes.
These little suckers are hot as heck coming off the grill so be careful! When I saw these my first thought was "Hey, little panini!" Lets face it, they're darn close to panini. I really am not sure what the recent fixation with panini is since they've been around for ages, only we called them "grilled cheese." I guess calling them panini allows grown ups to eat kid food while still feeling mature. I do however, think Krystals might make an excellent panini! But that's for later. Lets top our Monte Krystals!
The two classic Monte Cristo toppings are powdered sugar and/or a tart fruit jam, usually raspberry. I tried the powdered sugar first, but unfortunately accidentally inhaled some of the sugar and sneezed sending a cloud of sugar all over the dining room. Maybe I should have used jelly first to hold the sugar. Anyway, I smothered the other Krystal with Raspberry jelly and chowed down.
My conclusion: the powdered sugar Monte Krystal was interesting. Salty sweet cheesy onion flavor. It's probably an acquired taste. I just haven't acquired it yet. Now as for the raspberry version, yum yum! Tart, sweet, hot, excellent. Then again you could probably get me to eat plywood if you put enough raspberry jelly on it.
The bottom line is, I am not sure it's worth the effort when making these for one person, though the George Foreman grill really made it easier. If you can get a crowd together, I could see an assembly line cranking these things out! I'll probably wind up doing a Krystal Panini here soon, just for kicks. So keep your eyes open.
Krystal Lovers like it steamy.
