Happy Memorial Day!
I got home a couple of hours ago from a 6 day vacation in Jacksonville, FL. After hours of chasing a little boy old around, two different pool parties (and chasing a little boy around in the pool), little sleep, lots of good food, and several hundred miles, I am wiped out, sun burned, and completely frazzled. I'd had hopes of coming home to post a tour of my visit to the World War Two Memorial from back in March. I am in no shape to give a tour at this point. The Red Wings play in 15 minutes and I'll need toothpicks to keep my eyelids open as it is. But don't worry, I have a solution: A self guided tour! I know the pictures below may not be self explanatory (especially since I didn't bother to enter a description). So you can use The Memorial Website. Use the "Facts" and "Photos" links on the left to find details as well as better pictures and explanations of the various relief sculptures. The pictures were taken in a clockwise order from the entrance to the memorial so it's the Pacific side first, then the Atlantic/European side. Sadly the Memorials web site doesn't appear to have all of the quotes from the memorial, which is a shame. Maybe I am just too tired to find them. But they are ALL worth taking a moment to read. So I have included my pictures of each and every one of them. My favorite is the last one. Especially in light of our current military and political situation. But now is not the time and here is not the place to get in to that. Spring Break in Washington DC |
