Quick Post
This post will be short, but worry not, my friends. A longer post is in the works for later this afternoon. I have been downtown in Macon for the beginnings of the Cherry Blossom Festival. For those that have not experienced CBF, you're missing out. The entire city turns pink, and only a fraction of it is from the actual Yoshino Cherry Trees planted all over the city. People wear pink, paint pink blossoms on their car and store windows. The town even paints a pink stripe down the middle of Cherry Street, between the double yellow lines. I'll be giving some advice tomorrow for those who wish to come to town. For now though I wanted to point out some excellent viewing material on TV. Check your local listings for the movie Mystery, Alaska. Its on Fox in about 10 minutes then on WGN later this afternoon. It was on WGN this past week, too, so it has apprently made it into "rotation." The hockey in the movie is moterately realistic, with a few obvious errors. Well obvious to people who knows the game a bit. Perhaps the best part of the movie is the opening. A lone skater on a frozen river. Turn the sound up. if you have surround sound you'll know what I mean. The skates digging into the ice produces an unmistakable sound. Hockey fans know what I mean. It makes your blood pump. I am baffled, however, on how Russell Crowe who is from NEW ZELAND somehow manages to get a role playing someone from Alaska. As I said, the hockey scenes are realistic. The casting, not so much. Don't let that ruin it for you. It's still a decent movie. And I have been told by various hockey players that the whole idea ofa "neighborhood weekend game" is totally normal when there's ice on the ponds for most of the year. Sadly, the only way I see ice here in Macon is in my beverage. ![]() |
