New Use For Chik'n Stik'n Stick
Krystal Kid to Krystal Kommand. Come in Krystal Kommand! It is just after 5 on July 16th and I have successfully set up my forward outpost on the Burgatory Border. The elements were against me as it started raining Saturday just into North Carolina and continued until yesterday afternoon. While most of my stuff was in the moving truck or my mother's vehicle, some items were in the back of my pick up and exposed to the rain. Thankfully it is all dried off and seems to be in good shape. The outpost is going to take some getting used to. The kitchen is MUCH smaller than the prior kitchen with 1/3 of the cabinets and 1/4 of the counter top. Whats worse is there is only 1 drawer. The bathroom is similarly reduced in size with no drawer and only 1 cabinet under the sink. Currently everything that is supposed to dispense water, does so if I want it to or not. Kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and tub faucet all leak hot water. All of those I could tolerate. What I could not tolerate was the lack of cable. Partly because without it you get no television. I have a ton of DVDs and VHS tapes and could survive a month on those. However, no cable means no internet. That wont do. The cable guy arrived today to hook up my cable Tv and internet. He said my order said I wanted 2 TV hook ups (living room and bed room) and 1 cable modem. However the agreement with the apartment complex only allowed him to hook up one. That explains why there was only 1 room in the entire apartment (but holes through some of the walls). Apparently whenever a tenant moves out they rip out all the cables and then paint over everything. And I do mean PAINT OVER EVERYTHING. (He had to scrape the pain off the Cable jack to hook up my living room TV.) He was kind enough to leave me with a 3 way splitter. He also offered to hook my cable modem up if I bring the computer to the living room. So I had to disassemble my computer and set it up on the living room floor beside the TV. We got it hooked up and I was good to go. I checked my email this afternoon around 12: Keyboard in my lap, trackball on the coffee table, computer beside the TV and monitor on the floor in front of the TV. For the short term I could live with it, but long term, no way. I decided after lunch it would be time to resolve the situation. It's quite amazing what you can do with a stick, dental floss, scotch tape, duct tape, and two screwdrivers. MacGyver, kiss my butt! Scotch tape 4' piece of dental floss to stick. Duct tape other end of floss to the end of the cable TV cable. Poke stick through the wall until you find the opening on the other side. Go to other side of the wall and pull stick and floss through until the cable bumps the wall in the first room. Use screwdrivers to widen hole in first room until it is large enough for the end of the cable to slide through. Then use screwdrivers to widen the hole in the second wall enough for the cable to come through. Remove all tape, floss, sticks, etc. Attach a splitter in preperation for the next "leg" of the cable to go to the back bedroom. Blamo! I still need to run the cable to the back bedroom but it appears that may have to go into a closet then through a wall, and frankly I am not eager to crawl around on the floor of my closet with floss, tape, and a Chik'n Stik'n stick. I'd be perfectly happy to sit on the floor of my closet with an order of Chik'n Stik'n's and a MilkQuake right about now. Obviously there's more to come. Perhaps a post later tonight. It depends on how much I get unpacked. ![]() |
