Onions like the heat.

After my recent post on the extremely dry heat this past week I felt I needed to follow up with the "silver lining" of this unusual spring/summer.
You might recall that this time last year, the folks at Krystal were just rolling out the super delicious Onion Petals. At first there was an uproar amongst fans of Krystal's seasonal Vidalia Onion Rings, but after one taste of the petals, all was forgiven. Rings, petals, it doesn't matter. It's all crispy, tasty, and good. I have not yet seen or smelled anything oniony and deep fried up at Krystal yet, but I wait semi-patiently.
But after my weather post it dawned on me: could this weather possibly affect the oniony deliciousness we so look forward to? It took some digging but I have found good news at this website:
Those Lucky Onions
In an otherwise disastrous planting season, "Vidalia onions are the only bright spot," said Evans Extension Agent Dollar. "The dry weather has allowed us to harvest our Vidalia crop without any threat of wet weather."
By the second week of April, 80 to 90 percent of the onions had been harvested "smoothly," said Dollar, the digging made easier by the dry, loose soil. "That's about the only good thing about the dry weather," he said.
So I got all excited about everyone's favorite onion. But then I started to read of problems actually harvesting the onions. Apparently there's a problem finding something called an "immigrant worker" in south Georgia. How odd?! (Seriously, you don't want to hear my opinions on the whole illegal alien thing. Apparently, some people think I am "mean.")
Just to put my fear to rest I zipped by Kroger this morning and saw some Vidalias with my own eyes. All is right in the world. And you can order your own online now. Ordering actually started the middle of last month. Most Georgia groseries stores should have em. You can check this website for a list of vendors (some with online ordering). Or you will probably find someone seeling them at most roadside produce stands in Georgia.
For those that missed it, you can rewid my blog to see my wonderful onion coverage from last September along with my step by step instructions for the famous Baked Vidalia.
P.S. We did finally get a nice rain yesterday and we might get a touch today too.

First off, the petals are the best onion I have ever put in my mouth! Secondly, I am not patient about their return to the menu, I want them NOW! It is summer and it is time for the PETALS!

If...(raising both my hands in the air)...the golden, yum, yum, yummy southern oinions are in the stores and roadside stands, then they should be at Krystal!

I wish the glorious petals were available during Thanksgiving...then I could use them in your Krystal stuffing! How great would that be?!

Use your Super Powers KRYSTAL KID and get those petals in the stores!
