Travelin' Macon (Again!)

Well it's getting close to road warrior time for me again, with several trips in the next two weeks. I actually had one long trip planned this weekend but due to unfortunate circumstances it has now turned into two short trips.
Saturday, I will be heading down to Jacksonville, FL with my friend Dana and meeting up with our friend Kenneth to watch the Columbus Cottonmouths play against the Jacksonville Barracudas. Kenneth and Dana and I have spent many games sitting together, analyzing the game, tracking stats, and discussing the finer points of the game. Dana used to be the radio and internet voice of the Cottonmouths and Ken and I would split time doing color commentary during games.
The game may be my last live game this season, unless I make it to a playoff game. With work being a hectic mess it would have to be spur of the moment on a weekend. With that in mind, I'll try and make the most of Jacksonville. After the game (and our usual post game bite to eat) Dana and I will be hitting the road back towards home.
On Monday, I will again be on the road, but this time going down I-16 to Brunswick, GA, for a concert. My favorite band nobody ever heard of (but should have), Emily's Toybox will be in concert at Bourbon Street Bar and Grille for a one night show. I saw them last October, not long after I got back from my cruise. Koincidentally, my friend Jennifer, who went on the cruise with me, will be meeting me in Brunswick for the concert.
If you happen to be in the Brunswick area and want to hit the show come on over. Please be aware though: if the fact that the show is at a bar, or the fact that the show wont start til like 8pm on a Monday night hasn't clued you in that this band isn't for kids, then let me just give you a small heads up. The lead singer, Mike, occasionally utters cuss words before, during, and after some songs (even that cuss word). But language aside, they're an absolutely fabulous band to see live, and lots of fun to talk to after the show.
If you'd like a peek at them live, you can catch them on a webcam this week. They're down in Key West at Sloppy Joe's this week. You can watch them on the Sloppy Joe Webcam all week. They usually go on about 8 or 9 at night and play until the bar finally pulls the plug on em, somewhere around 1 or 2 AM.
How they wound up in Brunswick (the middle of nowhere) confused me, but Mike straightened it out last October. The band plays in Key West a couple of times a year, for a week or two at the time. The band is based out of Pennsylvania. They drive down for the Key West shows and drive back afterwards. That's a LONG drive.
Somewhere along the line one of their friends from PA wound up living in Brunswick and convinced the guys to stop there (about halfway from Key West to Pennsylvania) and play a one night gig.
It works out for the bar, since it plugs a normally quiet Monday night. It works out for the band, as it gives them an excuse to get off the road. More importantly, it works out for me, because Pennsylvania and Key West are both WAY too far away from me to see a show. Though I have taken advantage of the webcam at Sloppy Joe's in the past.
Rather than attempting to drive home after the show like last time (when I almost got killed by deer on I-16 at 3am) Jennifer and I will be crashing at a hotel. I promise that it is completely a koincidence that the hotel is less than 200 feet from a Krystal. I didn't realize my good fortune until after I booked the hotel.
But I certainly will take advantage of the situation! In the old days I could assume there's be tasty hot Krystals waiting for me when I got out of the concert at 2am. But as you know, some Krystals actually close these days (partly due to money, and partly due to safety/security concerns). So I'll probably grab steamers when I pull into town, cause Jennifer and I have already agreed we're hitting IHOP on Tuesday morning!
Krystal Lovers like hot buns.
