Checking out

Krystal Adventures will go quiet this labor day weekend. I am heading out of town tomorrow and won't return til Sunday or Monday. Tomorrow morning I am headed to Atlanta for my annual weekend at Dragon Con. This is the 20th Con and I have been at every one. I also went to the departed (and not in the least bit mourned) Atlanta Fantasy Fair for 2 years before DC started.
So yes this is a side of me I haven't really advertised much here. We all know I was a bit of a geek. OK, perhaps a LOT of a geek, but yes in my younger days I was all wrapped up in comic books and Dungeons and Dragons. Over the years I have out grown that stuff for the most part. I do still have a sizable comic collection (gathering dust in my Chris' basement until it is either eaten by rodents or I decide to sell it to fund my world tour). I stopped playing D&D years ago thanks to Wizards of the Coast, the infidels who destroyed role playing games and turned them into card games (Magic the Gathering). WoC bought D&D and ruined it and I have not touched it since.
So if I don't do comics or D&D why go to the convention? Well it's WAY more than just that. It has grown so much in the past 10-15 years that you can find most anything there, including this now infamous picture (click for full size):
Feel free to make up your own caption as we've come up with 10 or 15 over the years. My favorite is: "I work nights, when most banks are closed. Thank goodness my bank has ATMs all over town!"
The past 5 years or so, "the guys" mostly to go see the freaks, drink large amounts of adult beverages, be loud rowdy and obnoxious, and see some of the concerts. We're convention veterans and we're allowed. If you have a problem with it, I'll chop your head off with my light saber!
When Ken passed away earlier this summer there were lots of questions about if we'd return for the convention or not. Ken really shined at the convention, where his non-stop party personality made us all the center of attention. Well the Convention iron men have sucked it up this year and Mark, Jimmy, and I will once again return to lay waste to downtown Atlanta as only we can. Or perhaps we'll be laying, wasted, in downtown Atlanta. As we always say:The convention is a marathon, not a sprint.
I hope your labor day is as fun and exciting as mine will be. I also hope you see a lot less aliens, vampires, storm troopers, and witches. Nothing ruins a good Labor Day weekend like the undead. Be safe and set your phasers on "fun" not "stun." (Yes that was dorky, I know!)
Yes, I have lots more pictures from the conventions over the years but they're rated PG and R so they're not going to be posted here!
I'm A Krystal Lover
