Why am I home?
| It's Thursday and I am home. I know on the surface that doesn't sound too shocking. However, if you were paying attention, you'd recall I recently said I had picked up a Tuesday & Thursday night class. Due to the day and times it would impact my Thursday evening Krystalfest as well as impact my posting. Well let me assure you I am not sitting in class blogging while my students sweat and slave over difficult computer concepts like "Cut" or "Copy" or the infamous "Paste." No, I opted not to teach the class. There are several reasons. (Krystal wasn't one of them.) Let's just chalk it up to "philosophical differences" or "academic freedom" or even "good lord, you can't be serious!?!?" Since folks where I work may read this blog, I suspect I'll leave the explainations there. I don't wanna be one of those guys who gets canned for saying ugly stuff about his job on a blog. Since I made that decision, however, it has turned into a wise one. There was another class I had also been tapped to teach in the evenings. It then got shifted to daytimes starting this coming Monday. This morning we were contacted and told that the clients essentially couldn't get their crap together, so the entire course was postponed til October. So I had been expecting 2 classes added on to my workload and now had zero. What would I do with all this free time? Well sadly, someone else got to make that decision. I currently work in a "new" department, unlike anything the school has ever seen, nor any of the other technical colleges in the state (or southeast for that matter). No one really knows who we are or what we do, and we like it that way! Sadly, it's tough to justify your department's existance (and salaries) like that, so we've been So the bottom line is this: more work when the sun is up, less work when the sun is down. For those of you living in fear or panic over a reduction in your dosage of Krystal Adventures, no need to fear. There will be plenty to go around! So sit back, relax, eat a Krystal, and rejoice! |
