God Bless America!

I know today isn't July 4th, but I wont be around to post anything tomorrow so I figured I'd better get this in today. For tomorrow I've got my steaks marinating, my beverages chilling and I am getting ready to enjoy the day. But with all of the hustle and bustle around here I figured I'd let Krystal fix lunch for me for today.
Now for those folks at Krystal who do the excellent product photography, my hat's off to you. (Yes my Detroit Red Wings hat). Getting that one shot almost never happened. First off, the simple act of NOT eating anything on the short drive home was hard enough. The brand new Vidalia Onion Petals were smelling amazing and just begging to be devoured. Once I got them home, getting the products set up for the shot took some work. But the worst part was those &*#^%*^ sparklers. I went through about 8 of em to get that photo. I seem to recall from my childhood that sparklers would light rather easily. Let's face it, it's a steel wire wrapped in gunpowder. But these suckers wouldn't light. By the time I finally got the 3rd one lit, the 1st one was out. Then again, since this is the first year 'fireworks' are legal in Georgia, we probably got the crappy leftovers that have been in the back of a warehouse for 5 years.
Oh, and the Krystal box in the picture... it's got my picture on it. I finally got a box without badgering anyone at Krystal for it. I didn't realize it was mine til after the photo shoot. I was beginning to think that my boxes were being phased out. A week ago, the folks at my Krystal said they hadn't seen any in a while.
So my two closing thoughts heading into the holiday: It's been a hot dry past few weeks. If you plan to do fire works please be safe! Alcohol and small explosives don't mix well, so if you intend to have drinks at your party, leave the fireworks to professionals (or at least the sober folks).
Lastly, please do remember the reason for the celebration. We live in the greatest country on Earth. That's why so many people want to come here, so many countries want to be us, so many countries want to be our best friend, and sadly why so many countries want to hurt us. The inventions that define 'modern society' are all creations of the US: the airplane, telephone, light bulb, the internet (not the web, though), the personal computer (Be sure to read the last sentence for amazing and personal trivia), Coca Cola (and Pepsi), and of course, the my beloved Krystal.

Remember those who protect and defend her as she turns 230 years old.
