Krystals Are Small, And So Is The World!
| Ready for another big batch of Krystal Koincidences? Me too. You may need pencil and paper to keep up with all this. So last week I am sitting at home goofing off, because that's what I am good at. I then receive an e-mail with the title 'Krystal and the inherently tiny nature of reality.' If that wasn't strange enough, what was inside was even more amazing: Hey, man. I had you for an intro computing class at Mercer back in... oh, 2000-ish. I see you're on Krystal boxes now, which is pretty insane, insofar as my fiancée works for Krystal's ad agency, so I'm constantly being bombarded with Krystal around the house. Utter insanity. The e-mail was from a former student of mine, Cenate. Maybe a bit of history is in order. In addition to graduating from Mercer Univerisity in 1994 (BA) and again in 2001 (MS), I also taught in the Mercer Computer Science Dept. for three years from 1998-2002. The second year (99-00) I taught CSC 125, the Intro to Computers class. I taught it a lot. Cenate was one of the students the school herded through the course. I'd certainly love to take credit for his computer skills, but I'm not that good. So back to the story. I get this email from Cenate and I laugh about it for a while. I mean I figured former students of mine might eventually see me on a box, but I figured it might end there. This blog isn't mentioned on the box or Krystal.com. I figure it's kind of a not-so-well-kept secret. Obviously, Cenate's connection was through is fiancée, Wendy. In my reply I ask how Cenate found my email address. I figured maybe she got it from Kenny, Tiffany, or Jennifer over at The Krystal Lover blog. Apparently that wasn't it. Cenate had been doing a little Krystal snooping on the web for Wendy, and apparently he found my site on www.wikipedia.com. Let me pause for a moment while that sinks in. For those who have never been, wikipedia is sort of the ultimate online encyclopedia. In my opinion, it is one of the things people had in mind when the internet was dreamed up. The entire world contributes their knowledge to a common collection of information. I've referenced it a few times in my blog already, and hit the Krystal page a couple of months back for kicks. Well apparently, this blog is now linked from Wiki. I never would have known is Cenate hadn't have emailed me. So lets see, I have been Tivo'd by Jarrett's parents, I have been wiki'd, and of course I have Googled myself. Oh, and of course put on a Krystal box, and in the near future a cup. Simply utterly amazing. I think back to when this whole thing started and figured maybe this would be worth a laugh and maybe get me a cool t-shirt. I so totally underestimated this. OK, so talking to Cenate, and since his fiancée works for advertising I figure maybe she was at the same company at Amanda with Wicked PR. If you don't recall Amanda, hop back to the mid March archives. Amanda helped me get my TV interviews set up. Cenate tells me that's a different company but he thinks the two companies may be owned by brothers. Wendy is with the Varnson Group. Wicked-PR does Krystal's PR, but the Varnson group does the TV and Radio ads. On the one hand, I'd love to have a job doing any of that, but on the other hand, I'd wind up eating all the food and never get any work done. Of course that's also completely overlooking the fact that I have zero business and advertising experience. So now I am wondering if perhaps Kenny, Tiffany, and Jennifer from Krystal HQ know Wendy. Just exactly how small is this Krystal eating world we live in? And if it really is small, is it also square? Because I know for sure it's been steamy hot the past few days! Sheesh!  |
