To Burgatory and Back!
For those who are just joining us, Burgatory is my name for places that do not have Krystal restaurants. Sadly, on many occasions I must venture into Burgatory, in particular, when I go visit my family in eastern NC. This past weekend was my grandmother's birthday and there was no way I would miss that. (No, I wont tell you how old she is, so don't ask!) My grandmother's birthday party was sort of an impromptu family reunion as well. My brother, sister in law, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, and of course my grandmother were all there. I decided on the drive up that this weekend was about HER, not me, so Krystal would not be a topic. Little did I know that some people had other plans. It seemed most folks had heard in one form or another of my "honor." But since they didn't have all the details I had to fill them in. A lot. Given that there are no Krystals in Eastern NC (or "Down East" as they call it) before I could even explain the KLHOF, I had to identify what a Krystal was. All that talk of the tasty little ones sure made me hungry! Sadly, logistical problems prevented me from taking a Krystal Steamer full of burgers with me. But on my next trip I will certainly make sure it happens. Instead, this time, I took boxes and bumper stickers and a few copies of the Macon Telegraph from last week with my article in it. As expected the "Krystal Lovers Like Hot Buns" stickers went quick. ![]() All in all it was a great trip. Always great to see my family, as I am sure you understand. Sadly, Monday always seems to come around no matter how much you try to avoid it, and I had to return to work. What made my Monday a dark day is that I learned the location I had so hoped would turn into a Krystal now has no hope as the entire corner has been purchased to be turned into some megastore. The BP gas station already on the corner closed over the weekend and I assume they'll be knocking the building down soon. I am heart broken, twice. Of course this means Krystal will have to find another location, but I also would stop in that BP at least once a week for gas and goodies. Curse you, megastores!! With this past weekend's road trip out of the way, I don't forsee any more major trips in the near future. This is good so I can settle down and concentrate on work for a little while. But do not worry, my fine friends, you will not be forgotten! There are plenty of adventures on the horizon and as soon as we can get the scanner hooked up at work, I'll have more great goodies for you to see. So stay tuned! ![]() |
