Pickle Picker - The Krystal Eatin' Game
I got home from my trip about 6 o'clock tonight. If you were watching the weather and saw the nasty storms over SC, let me assure you it was even nastier UNDER those clouds. Rain, wind, hail, and crazy SC drivers don't mix. Needless to say I am worn out. I'll post my weekend review tomorrow evening. But don't feel sad, little campers, I do have something fun for you! I've been working out a Krystal game in my head for the past couple of weeks. The trip to Chattanooga helped. I love to drive places cause it gives me time to think. Then again, perhaps that's not such a good thing. Anyway, here we go: Pickle-Picker (The Krystal Eatin Game) Number of players: 4 Equipment: Purchase 16 Krystals, no pickles on 15 of them. Since regular Krystals come in a different box than “Special” Krystals, either ask that the singular pickle Krystal be placed in a “Special” box, or ask for no mustard, so that burger is now “Special” as well. Adding Bacon or Ketchup or Cheese will make that burger easier to identify, so refrain from these additions. It is vital that all of the Krystals look exactly the same to the naked eye. (You can see the different boxes including the "Special" box in the Kystal box collection using the link to the left) Peek Rule: Upon receiving the Krystals, all players must look them over to ensure the pickle cannot be seen. If the pickle is visible, the first player who sees it will yell “Peeking Pickle!” He will then carefully remove the Krystal from its box, turn it until the pickle does not show, and replace it in the box. Setup: Place all 16 Krystals on a table in a nice orderly rectangular. Symmetry is key. Players must then arrange themselves around the table, and will remain in that order until the game has ended. One player will be picked to go first, by any means necessary (rock/paper/scissors, slaps, coin toss, draw numbers, no holds barred wrestling match, etc.) The Mix: Players 3 and 4 turn their backs to the table so only the first two players can see the Krystals. Player 1 then rearranges the Krystals in any way he chooses, trying to mix in the Pickled Krystal. Player 2’s job is to ensure that player 1 does not cheat by looking for the pickle, nor eat one of the Krystals. Once he has finished, player 1 turns his back to the table, and player 3 turns to watch player 2 mix the burgers. This continues with each player mixing the burgers while the player to their left watches, until all 4 players have had a chance to mix the burgers up. Player 1 will of course watch player 4 mix. Speed Rule: At any time, should the players feel someone is taking too long to mix the burgers, they are free to yell “OH COME ON ALREADY!!!” If more than 1 player has yelled then all players are encouraged to hit the slow swapping player. Playing: All players face the table. Player 1 chooses a burger and removes it from its box, leaving the box in place on the table. The player then takes a bite of the Krystal. He must NOT put the whole Krystal in his mouth. If he does not bite into the pickle burger, he then swaps 2 and only 2 burgers on the table while all other players watch. That ends the first player’s turn. He is free to drink his coke or eat fries until it is his turn again. The next player clockwise around the table now takes his turn. Players then continue the process: eat a burger, swap two burgers, until a player finds the Krystal with the pickle on it. At which point, all other players point at that player and yell “Pickle Picker!” This ends the actual game, and players are free to divide the remaining pickle-free Krystals however they wish. Extending the game: More players: While adding one or two players might not adversely affect the game, playing with more than 7 players will slow the game down as each “round” will take a long time with all of the swapping and eating. The Krystals will get cold before the game ends. Remember to purchase 4 Krystals per player, and pickle on only 1 for the whole table. Much like in golf, tables should be kept to 4 if possible, spreading any remainders among those tables. A table with less than 4 should be avoided. Krystals have 4 sides and so should this game. If you cannot find 3 friends to play, get better friends. Season Series: For those of us who go for endurance eating try a “Season Series.” The Pickle-Picker from one tournament is responsible for buying ALL the Krystals at the next tournament. For this format, it is best to keep the same people each time otherwise the “Pickle-Picker” might try to dodge his Krystal buying duty. If a new player joins the group, they automatically have to buy all of the Krystals. (This gives incentive for the Pickle-Picker to recruit a new player by the next tournament.) The player that bought the Krystals is also automatically player 1 for the next round. Big Appetites: For those who eat more Krystals, you can increase the number of burgers per person but it needs to remain a multiple of the number of players. If two people want 6 Krystals and two people want 4, then the bigger appetites have a higher chance of picking the pickle, and the smaller appetites will have to watch the last 2 rounds. Just buy 4 for now and get more after the game. Hope you enjoy! At let me know of any new or exciting rules you may come up with, especially if they involve more yummy Krystal food. ![]() |
