After my waterlogged tour of Lake Blackshear, I decided to take the hour or so before Andrea arrived and take advantage of the fact that the rain had let up. I grabbed my camera and went out for a little walk around the resort. In the second picture, the third building from the left is the "cabin" where I stayed. My room was top floor just left of center, room 107. While my knee generally disagrees with stairs, I'd climb two or three flights for the view from my private screened porch. After Andrea arrived we each grabbed a drink and grabbed a chair on the porch to sit and talk and relax for an hour or so. I'm really not sure that it gets better than that.
You may have noticed in a few pictures that there appears to be trees out in the middle of the lake. We saw several on our boat tour as well. Frank even pointed out one or two dead trees a little below the surface of the lake on the tour. Apparently when they decided to dam the river to make the lake they decided not to cut down the trees in the way and figured they'd eventually die and fall down on the bottom of the lake. I learned many many years ago that you cannot drown a cypress tree. If it can get even a little sunlight and a little air, it'll keep right on going. It sure makes for an interesting ride around the lake! On my walk around the lake I also discovered that there are quite a few families of geese.Since I am the Goose Whisperer I walked on over to introduce myself. Above is Fred out with the kids. Here's Barbara with all four kids, Peter, Joey, Wendy and little Sue. Barbara is relaxing as the kids enjoy an afternoon snack of bugs. They all invited me to enjoy a light snack of bugs, but I had to pass. I knew there was a great banquet ahead that evening, and frankly I didn't want Andrea to arrive while I was in the middle of a gnat snack. I thanked the geese for their hospitality and wandered back to my room to wait on Andrea. |
