Tomorrow is Veteran's Day. In the beginning it was a celebration of VE day in World War 2, but has grown into a day of honor and celebration of those who have served our country. Tomorrow is a day for all veterans, and you should go find a veteran and thank them. I talked with a Korean War era Navy veteran outside Wal Mart yesterday. They were there for the VFW. While tomorrow is a day for all veterans, today is a special day for the United States Marine. On 10 November, 1775 in Tun Tavern in Philadelphia a group of rowdy young men formed an organization what would help shape the face of this country, and in turn, the world we know today. This past summer I posted a few news items of a Marine taking on a bear armed only with a log, as well as a post about a retired Marine beating a would be pick pocket senseless, and another Marine shooting a would be robber. While the news articles from those posts have expired, I have found you some new ones (Watch the video clip on the last one!):
A few words of advice though: Be sure you approach from the front, don't grab their money, don't point a gun at them, and don't act like a bear. Otherwise you might get punched, shot, or clubbed. And by all means don't call them "a former Marine" or you're likely to get punched, clubbed AND shot. Happy 232th Birthday, USMC! |
